Michigan State is in Columbus to continue one of its closest rivalries against Ohio State. The last 10 games in the rivalry have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Some nights, shooting cures all ills.

Michigan State hit 14 3-pointers en route to a 81-62 road win at Ohio State on Tuesday.

The win gave No. 6 Michigan State (23-5, 10-5 Big Ten) its seventh win in its last eight outings as it continues to cruise toward the postseason.

Tuesday's performance included six second-half 3-pointers from Bryn Forbes, who finished with 27 points in one of the best shooting outings of his Michigan State career. He finished with seven 3-pointers, one shy of his career high set against Michigan earlier this season.

Denzel Valentine overcame a 2-for-7 start to score 17 points, with a 4-for-7 showing from long range. Forward Matt Costello finished with 16 points, including 12 in the second half.

Forbes' sixth long ball of the half put Michigan State up by 13 points, putting away an Ohio State team that hung around despite the Spartans' shooting exhibition.

The Buckeyes had the deficit to six points midway through the second half was a minor triumph. Of course that didn't last long, as the Buckeyes allowed open 3s from Forbes and Denzel Valentine, went back down by double-digits and the Spartans never looked back.

Michigan State trailed with six minutes left in the first half, but held Ohio State to an 0-for-9 stretch as it built a five-point lead into the break. Spartans coach Tom Izzo told ESPN at halftime that "we played about as bad as we can play."

The first half woes included two fouls for Costello and struggles guarding Ohio State's size on the perimeter.

After Buckeyes point guard JaQuan Lyle hit a long 3-pointer to open the second half, the Spartans went on a 14-6 run, starting with back-to-back Forbes 3-pointers.

From there, the 3-pointers came in bunches -- three in a five-possession stretch, then two more in three possessions until the sparse crowd had filed out of Value City Arena.

Ohio State led briefly, 25-24, late in the first half, but Michigan State led 36-31 at the break.

Michigan State next faces Penn State at home Sunday.
